PROGRAM: Every year, the Charlotte Hoyt Bagnall Scholarship for Church Musicians grants awards from $300 to $1500 for study in religious music and liturgy. The awards are intended to help musicians improve their ability to support religious worship services and are typically used for music lessons; high school, college or graduate level studies related to organ or religious music; or attendance at attendance at seminars.

ELIGIBILITY: Commencing in 2004, the scholarship will conduct separate competitions for high school age musicians and for post high school musicians. The 2005 scholarship will be for post-high school musicians. TO APPLY: Musicians interested in this scholarship are invited to submit an application which asks for the following information: musical qualifications; work experience as a church musician; current and future goals as a church musician; the program for which the grant will be used; how the program will help achieve the stated goals; the organization(s) or person(s) providing the training; the amount of the grant requested (up to $1500); and at least one written reference. Music conferences and trade shows are wonderful places to network and meet like-minded people. Most offer opportunities to showcase new music. Here's a list of some of the most popular ones. (Most are listed in the Billboard calendar section.) If possible, attend those that are target- ed toward your music, rather than just a general music seminar.
